Draw pad

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

This was a very old experiment playing with bitmap caching in Flash. Works by duplicating movieClips and caching results to a bitmap. This technique allows you to give the impression of drawing forever without slow down. After this R&D, I used the code in the Jenson Buttons Design a Helmet app and subsequently the re.drawer experiements.

Click and draw anywhere to start drawing.

Admittedly its not as high def as the offline version, but it’s a start. Mac Users using iSight may need to change their ‘Settings‘ in the Flash plugin for the file to pick up the right image source. Any feedback welcomed…

Enjoy 🙂

Above: Full size detail from one frame. Each frame is rendered back at HD quality.

The Flash App which saves out the frames is extended using MDM Zinc 2.5. This allows it to save each frame as a numbered BMP file which can then be imported into AfterEffects to be remade into a QuickTime Movie file.
