This was drawn from a photo taken on holiday in Southern Italy. Spent about 3 days on it and really enjoyed in the process. Getting the light right on this baby meant loads! Illustrated in Flash.

Having illustrated faces in a very minimal way, I’ve started using gradients to emphasis depth in the illustrations.
What was fun about doing this illustration what while working in such a close view to the illustration for details such as the mouth and eyes, it was always a suprise when you zoomed out to take in the whole and how everything clicked into place.

An early portrait starting to look more at detail. Before this most of my portraits had just been face outlines with either solid fills or gradients. Freehand was used to colour correct the finished image for output to print. Illustrated in Flash & Freehand.
